IT was an awesome weekend of racing and hanging with the RACING GREYHOUNDS team.

My race prep/Taper started two weeks out.  My Training peaks numbers were perfect and I came into race day with

ATL – 66

CTL – 77.6

TSB – +10.5

What does this mean to you?  Nothing.  But to me it meant I was ready to race at my best performance.  I did have a great week leading up to the race and Race day morning was perfect.  Legs felt great.  Training has been great.  Just need it all to come together on RACE day right?  I mean, we can ride a 100 miles, but how fast we can ride it is the key!

The course was super fast AND super sandy in fast hard corners.  They changed the start this year instead of a 3 mile road controlled rollout they added 3 miles of two track and single track to break up the pack.   FAIL.  we actually came to a stop twice in the first 2 miles.  I hope they go back to the road rollout.  This also added time to the race, which is no big deal I guess.

First lap, was kinda HOT and I wanted it that way.  I was chasing Karl and Wiz who kept a kinda hot pace, but we were all feeling great I can tell.  Around mile 17 we hit some climb I think called FU?  I saw Wiz walking it as he was caught behind people walking it. I am like NO WAY I am walking a climb at LJ with this 28th chain ring.  So I grind up, and people got out of the way and half way up I had a hard pedal and the rear wheel jolted beneath me and sent me off the side and down the hill rolling.  I get up and see a longass line of people I just held up as my bike is across the trail and they could not move.  I had to shake it off and run up the climb and get to pushing my bike.  People were so pissed at me and I felt bad for fuxking up the climb.  Well there goes Wiz and Karl out of my sights. I grind away and get Wiz in my sights again and I can tell I am having a faster first lap and then around mile 19…BAM I hit that dam Ninja Stump Wiz warned us about and I hit the ground hard then a mofo. I hurt.  Banged both knees and hit hard on my shoulder jarring my head.  I was stunned.  Someone moved my bike for me I remember and next thing I know Snappy and SteveD were standing over me.  I so happy to see them as they helped me up and waited for me.  That was AWESOME.  THanks Again Snap and SteveD.  I know that added time to your awesome finishing times and I REALLY appreciated it.  I finally get back on the bike and my knees are killing me with each pedal stroke. I was dreading the DNF as they were killing me.  I instantly felt like lap 3 and I was on lap 1.  Slowly the pain went away as I hit some flat sections that allowed me to soft pedal.  I jumped on some passing riders wheel and was able to get back in a rhythm.

I went straight through not stoppig at the our SuperAwesomeAid station as I planned on not stopping until the 3rd lap.  That worked out pretty well I would say with my nutrition.  The second lap I still felt pretty good and the lap time was quicker then my first lap despite stopping to pee twice.  I refuel and stock up on nutrition head back out starting to feel the heat of the day but still felt alright.  Around mile 70ish I noticed I was having a hard time applying the same amount of force to the pedals and my power numbers were showing it.  The second half of the race was hot and brutal.  I just could not put out power like I thought I would. I guess it was due to the heat?  I was riding and wondering, what supplement am I missing that would allow me more power/energy in the 1-2 hours of races as this is when I fall apart for some reason.  I am thinking maybe a low sugar count?  I was thinking I should had a coke at the aid station.

All in all a great race and I really enjoyed it.  Yes it was tough at the end, but its racing, it is suppose to be tough!
